Current status

• International patent application filed

  PCT/AU2026/050792, filed 24 July 2026, with priority from an Australian provisional application filed August 2025. It covers the dual-system architecture and the felt spatial encoding. International applications are not published until roughly 18 months from the priority date, so this one is not searchable on public registers yet.

• Working prototype

  Custom hardware, firmware and application, built and iterating. Informal feedback has come from people across the vision-loss spectrum, including congenital blindness, macular degeneration and retinitis pigmentosa.

• Structured user study

  A standardised participant study is being planned, to run under human research ethics approval with independent clinical oversight, in a purpose-built assessment space.

• Regulatory classification

  Classification under the Australian therapeutic goods framework is being determined with a licensed regulatory consultant, alongside formal risk management and Australian electrical and radio certification planning.

How we talk about evidence

We distinguish carefully between two things that are often blurred together in this field:

• Informal user testing — real people using the prototype and telling us what works. We have this, and it drives the build. It is not clinical evidence.
• Structured study under ethics approval — a defined protocol, independent oversight, pre-specified measures. This is planned, not complete, and we will not describe results before there are results.

When the study is done, we will publish what it found — including anything it fails to show.

Working with us

We are interested in hearing from clinicians, orientation and mobility specialists, researchers, and blindness and low-vision organisations — particularly those willing to be sceptical in public. Early, critical review is more useful to us than late, polite agreement.
