Spatii

Spatial awareness you can feel.

An Australian company developing wearable assistive technology for people who are blind or have low vision.

An eight by eight grid of dots, larger and brighter where objects are nearer — a representation of how the device senses the space around the wearer.
The world as the device senses it — a field of distances

What we're building

Information you can feel, without occupying your hearing.

We are developing a wearable device that senses the space around the wearer and conveys distance and direction as gentle, felt vibration. Because the information arrives through touch rather than sound, hearing stays free — the sense people who are blind or have low vision rely on most.

It is designed as a supplementary spatial-awareness aid, to be used together with the white cane or guide dog, and never as a replacement for either.

The device is in active development. It is not currently available for supply, and nothing on this site is an offer to sell. We will publish availability information only once development, testing and the applicable regulatory steps are complete.

Why we're building it

This started at home.

My sister has retinitis pigmentosa. I watched her world narrow, year by year — and watched her navigate a landscape of obstacles that arrive without warning above the cane's reach.

I also know sight loss from the inside. A cardiac arrest and a stroke in my visual cortex took my vision; within three months I could see again, recovering fully. For most of the people we build for, it never comes back.
