This site does not track you.

What this website collects

We collect nothing that identifies you. We set no cookies and run no advertising or cross-site tracking scripts, which is also why you were not shown a consent banner.

Three ordinary technical points, for completeness:

• We count page visits using Cloudflare Web Analytics, run by our hosting provider. It sets no cookies, does not fingerprint your device, and does not follow you to other sites — it tells us only aggregate numbers, such as how many people read a page. We use it to understand which pages are useful.
• Our hosting provider processes standard web server logs (such as IP address and requested page) for delivery and security. We do not use those logs to build any profile of visitors.
• Typefaces are currently served by Google Fonts, so your browser makes a request to Google when a page loads. Google receives your IP address, the page address and standard browser headers as part of that request. We intend to self-host these files and remove the request entirely.

Questions sent from the FAQ page

When you send a question, we store the question text, the email address if you chose to leave one, and the date. Nothing else — no name required, no tracking of who asked.

We are conscious that a question about your own or a family member's sight can be health information. So: questions are stored first-party with our hosting provider, read only by us, used only to answer, and never published together with anything that could identify you. If a question would help other visitors, we publish a generalised version of the question and our answer. Ask us to delete your question and its record, and we will.

The development update list

If you give us your email address to receive development updates, we store that address — and nothing else about you — so we can send those updates. There is no third-party mailing service involved, no tracking pixels in what we send, and no profile built about you.

We deliberately do not ask whether you are blind or have low vision, or anything else about your health. Ask us to remove you at any time and we will, without asking why.

If you email us

Your email address, your message and anything you attach are held in our business email account so we can reply and keep a record of the correspondence. We use it for that purpose only.

We do not sell, rent or trade personal information, and we do not add anyone to a mailing list. If you ask to be told when the device becomes available, we keep your address for that single purpose until you tell us to remove it, or until we have told you.

Research participants

Information collected from people taking part in user testing or research studies is handled separately from this website, under the consent and ethics arrangements applying to that study. Participants are given those details directly before taking part, and nothing about participation is published without consent.

Your rights, and how to reach us

We handle personal information in line with the Australian Privacy Principles under the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth). You can ask us what personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it.

Write to us using the details on our contact page and we will respond within a reasonable period. If you are not satisfied with our response, you may complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner at oaic.gov.au.
